The most important thing to look at is if the carpet washer actually is functional. A lot of companies will promise they have the best carpet washer, but do they? Does it actually clean the carpet well? Check with your friends and read reviews online to find a machine with a good track record.  Nothing is more frustrating then spending your hard earned money on something and then having it not work like it should.

Weight is a big thing I looked at when getting my first carpet cleaner. I planned on using it a lot and didn’t want to be dragging around a overly heavy and large unit if I could find a smaller one that did as good of a job. Check the weight of the unit when it’s full of chemicals.  The shape of the carpet washer also plays a big role in how hard it is to carry around believe it or not. Bissell is known for making very ergonomic units that are easy to care throughout the house.Looking for a used or even refurbished carpet washer is the best way to get a model that might have been out of your price range. If you are worried about getting a used model that might break you can always take it to the local repair shop to get it checked out prior to buying it. The local repair shop might also sell models that they have personally repaired and are selling as used.

Believe it or not you can actually purchase a carpet washer for the cost of what most professional carpet cleaners will charge you for one room. With that carpet washer you can clean your entire home for the same price. If you’ve got kids or any pets it worked out to be an even larger savings. You can also help out friends when they have little stains like that around their homes that you can help them get out to save them money as well.  Sometimes the best carpet washer is one that you get a deal on.  In a lot of cases it’s that or not get one at all.  I’ve personally had really good luck with buying used things for my home.  The important thing to remember is that you need to take your time and read as many carpet washer reviews as possible to really get a good idea on what models are good and what models are known to have problems and break a lot.

Before we get into the actual review though lets take a quick look at the basic description. The Hoover SteamVac is a great home carpet washer that will help save you a lot of time and money compared to borrowing or renting a carpet washer yourself everytime you want to clean your rugs, upholstery, or carpet. It has a very nice 12 Amp motor that can be set to the obvious high or low settings and comes with a nice selection of brushes to use based on what you want to clean. Another great thing about this carpet washer is that it comes included with some carpet cleaning solution that is very easy to spray on the carpet via a button on the main handle. Not every stain will come out right away when using the basic spray method and that’s where this machine really shines as the best carpet washer. It has a system called Clean Surge which sends a predetermined additional amount of the clean fluid on to the stain via another button located right on the handle. After you’ve applied enough of the carpet solution you can switch that off and run the carpet washer back and forth a few times to really pull the stain out. The particular model even puts some hot air into the mix to help.Obviously it has two water compartments, one for the used and dirty water and another with the clean water. It even automatically combined the cleaning solution so you don’t have to worry about the proper mixture. Also included is a 8 foot hose to clean other things like stairs, drapes, of furniture. As expected a one year warranty is included.

As far as the actual review goes I always check Amazon out because instead of just taking one persons word for it you usually can take a few hundred or even thousand reviews to really get an idea of how good this carpet washer is. Amazon is currently showing around 1235 reviews and of those 829 of them gave it 5 stars. That’s a huge number to back peoples thought’s on this being the best carpet washer. The only thing that worries me and you can check out some of the individual reviews is that 57 people only gave it one star.

A carpet washer is something that no home owner should be without. It can save you a lot of money over the years, especially when you consider how expensive it is to hire a company to come in and wash your carpets for you. Carpet washers range in price from $70 dollars for a portable entry level bissell model all the way up to and in some cases well over $200 dollars for various Vax models.

So How Exactly Do Carpet Washers Work?

The process is actually very similar to how clothes are washed. While the best carpet washer will most likely be a wet model, they do offer models that actually clean your carpet without getting it wet, however we’ll cover that in another post. The wet models work by spraying out a shampoo like chemical into your carpet that needs a bit of time to soak in and work itself into the carpet, then you actually vacuum your carpet with the carpet washer, while this happens it sprays out water to help dilute the soap and then when you go back over it a second time it sucks the water, dirt and soap out of the carpet.  Leaving you with an amazingly clean carpet.

Why Did My Carpet Get Dirty So Fast After Using A Carpet Washer?

This is a really common question and the answer will probably surprise you. It’s one of two things really and the first is simple. Do you walk around bare foot a lot? If so then it’s the natural oils from your feet that are making the carpet dirty. Most likely however you didn’t go slow enough when you were sucking the shampoo out of the carpet. When this happens the left over shampoo that’s still in the carpet can get sticky and actually attract more dirt, making your carpet dirty even faster which in turn requires you to haul out the carpet washer again to do another round of cleaning.

Will Carpet Washers Clean The Extra Dirty Spots?

If you’ve got a few spots around your carpet that are extra dirty of are obvious that something has been spilled like pop it’s important to spot clean those ahead of time as most carpet washers won’t be able to completely remove the stain. This can be done with some general carpet cleaning spray, water, and paper towel or rag. Simply spray some water and carpet cleaner down and then dab repeatedly to draw the stain out. It’s important to remember not to rub the stain as that can push the stain farther into the carpet.
